Falling in love with Jesus

Falling in love with Jesus

Poem by Jane Warburton

You were with me on the mountain

You were with me out to sea

You were waiting in the wings for me to open my heart to thee

You gave me a life with man and children

Your provision was far and way enough

But my home and heart were very far from thee when disaster was brought about on me

You were with me in the pain

You were with me in the turmoil

You were waiting in the wings for me to open my heart to thee

I can recover, I can make right again

But where from comes that emptiness in me?

Like an itch I cannot soothe

I look to find the answer

I look here and I look there, not in horoscopes, Indian or Chinese

Not in people, not in things, nothing can satisfy

I do not know you are waiting in the wings for me

Guard your heart and guard your ways

The voice of reason speaks to me

You cannot allow them to see your shame

You are not worthy of His name

Protect yourself and go in vain

I do not know you are waiting in the wings for me

Forgiveness?  The question burns in me..

Why should I let others off the hook when they abandoned me?

My heart breaks in remembrance, and yet

I hear a small voice speak to me

‘Forgive – it is you who will be freed’.

I do not know you are waiting in the wings for me

It is all arranged, the love exchange is in the air

Submissive, humble and underserving I go

For all to see, my heart is opened up to thee

My Lord, I love you, I am yours

I now know you have been waiting in the wings for me
