“MAY WE NEVER LOSE OUR WONDER!”
This is the first line of a song which continues: ‘wide eyed and mystified, may we be just like a child, staring at the beauty of the King.’
The scriptures tell us, that unless we become as little children, we cannot enter the Kingdom of God (Matthew 18 v 3). The word used here for children, is “paidion” which means ‘small infant’ or ‘toddler’.
I think we all need to take a ‘SELAH’ here!!
Now, to those of us who are parents, grand-parents or relatives; may I invite you to bring to remembrance the joy you had, when you saw a mini member of your family discovering the awe and wonder of his or her new world: the exclamations of pure pleasure and utter delight, the hops, bobbings, skipping or rocking. The clapping of little hands, the whooping and the innocent, child-like trust that because Mummy or Daddy, Auntie or Nana were there with them- all was safe and well and playing and discovering was great fun.
This is how our heavenly Daddy longs for us to be- full of humble, child-like faith, joy, peace and wonder as He takes us on our journey with Him into the realm of His Kingdom. It needn’t be heavy, onerous or like trudging mud. It isn’t about crossing all your “T’s” and dotting all your “I’s”- It is a heavenly dance where He takes the lead as He waltzes with us over the waves of life, and we, confidently cast all our cares and burdens onto Him who loves us, cherishes us and knows what’s best. As we rise with Him upon the breakers of discovery of the glories of this Kingdom, we cannot help but become more wide-eyed, mystified and child-like. The Bible tells us that ‘no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him but that God reveals these things to us by Spirit.’ (1 Corinthians 2 v 9-10. It is time to get out the “kiddies box”- you all know what I mean, THAT box full of percussion instruments that the adults offer to the children before worship begins. No but seriously, it is time to be unserious and to approach Abba as children again, trusting, abandoning simply being and have some fun.
